UNDERSTANDING THE RACE CRAFT JACKET

The Racecraft Jacket is the crown jewel of the Inception collection. It reflects RSRV’s intention of taking something destined for a function-first application and imbuing it with aesthetic energy. 

Based on the Alpinestars Dyno Jacket – a dormant late nineties silhouette from the Alpinestars archived – it re-emerged as a form-first homage to motorcycle racing. Starting with the original Dyno Jacket pattern, the fit was maintained, including the articulated sleeves. While a traditional racing jacket fits tight and rigid for aerodynamics and safety, the leather used to construct the Racecraft was softened for a more relaxed fit.

The material sourced for the jacket was a deadstock cowhide designated for MotoGP race suit construction. Given the need to mitigate injury to MotoGP athletes who may embark on 200MPH asphalt Slip 'N Slide rides, the leather is selected and treated to be extremely resilient, offering very little compliance.

To bring more suppleness and flexibility back into the jacket, the leather endured additional treatment and care to achieve the perfect temper – not too soft, not too rigid. It is finished with vintage zipper pulls, rescued from the Alpinestars hardware archives.

Further exploring its racing backstory, the jacket was adorned with embroidered patches that reference graphic icons of motorcycle racing, and phrasing that evokes racing language. While patches are traditionally utilized to bring awareness to sponsors, the Racecraft’s patches are only intended to bring awareness to the freedom, excitement, and emotion of motorcycle racing. The shapes, colors, and language are intended to be – like RSRV itself – familiar, but also new and unique.  

The Race Craft Leather Jacket was handmade in Asolo, Italy. Like every piece of the RSRV Inception collection, it was developed by the same team of Alpinestars craftspeople that develop and assemble MotoGP race leathers and Formula 1 fire suits worn by world-class athletes across the globe.
